Steve Weinerman Prayer Update

Hello friends and prayer partners, Doris has just let me know that the long awaited biopsy surgery for Steve is scheduled for January 3, 2008.  Once the biopsy is done, the surgeon will be able to decide what direction to take in Steve’s treatment and healing.

Please pray that God will direct the surgeon’s hands and that He will give His angels charge to watch over Steve during the procedure.  Please also pray that Steve will heal quickly and that once and for all this disease will loose it’s grip from Steve’s body as it has no power or place in his life.

Change Your Mind

A message from Joel Osteen Ministries – this should squelch those that feel that Joel Osteen is only a “feel good” preacher!

Change Your Mind

Today’s Scripture

“Repent (think differently; change your mind, regretting your sins and changing your conduct), for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 3:2 AMP).

Today’s Word from Joel and Victoria

Do you have behaviors in your life that you want to stop? Maybe it’s a habit, a bad attitude, or even negative thoughts. No matter what you may want to change in your life, you have to start by changing your mind. You have to change your thinking so that your thoughts are in line with God’s thoughts. When you repent and make a decision to follow God in every area of your life, you open the door for His supernatural power to work. When you take control of your thought life, you are cooperating with that power that is at work in you. Remember, your life will go in the direction of your thoughts. You can’t just allow any old thought or image to play in your mind. You have to choose right thoughts. The easiest way to change your thoughts is by speaking God’s Word. When you say “orange”, you probably won’t start thinking about an apple. In the same way, when you confess the Word of God, which says you are more than a conqueror, it will drive those negative, defeated thoughts away! Change your mind today by changing your words. As you think thoughts of faith and victory, you will move forward into the abundant life He has in store for you!

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, today I choose to take captive every thought that is contrary to Your will. I repent for anything in my life that is displeasing to You. Empower me today by Your spirit so that I can bring honor to You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

It’s A Birthday Celebration

Starting this blog has been such a blessing.  I am amazed at how many people visit my site and I have made some wonderful cyber buddies.  Daniel (one of my buddies) has been such a blessing to me, he sends me some of the nicest and thought provoking emails and this is one he sent to me recently.  I probably should have posted it before Christmas, but since Jesus wasn’t really born Dec 25th (even though that is the day we celebrate it) I decided it didn’t really matter if I was posting it before or after Christmas – the meaning is still special and I wanted to share it with you.  Take care and as always, God bless you… – Briggie ^i^

Worry

My longtime friend Marie sent this to me in an email and while I’m not 50 yet (sadly I’m getting close) I can totally relate so I’m posting it!  Enjoy!!!

Is there a magic cutoff period when offspring become accountable for their own actions?  Is there a wonderful moment when parents can become detached spectators in the lives of their children and shrug, ‘It’s their life,’ and feel nothing?

When I was in my twenties, I stood in a hospital Corridor waiting for doctors to put a few stitches in my daughter’s head.  I asked, ‘When do you stop worrying?’ The nurse said, ‘when they get out of the accident stage.’  My Dad just smiled faintly and said nothing.

When I was in my thirties, I sat on a little chair in a classroom and heard how one of my children talked incessantly, disrupted the class, and was headed for a career making license plates.  As if to read my mind, a teacher said, ‘Don’t worry, they all go through this stage and then you can sit back, relax and enjoy them.’  My dad just smiled faintly and said nothing.

When I was in my forties, I spent a lifetime waiting for the phone to ring, the cars to come home, the front door to open.  A friend said, ‘They’re trying to find themselves..  Don’t worry, in a few years, you can stop worrying.  They’ll be adults.’  My dad just smiled faintly and said nothing.

By the time I was 50, I was sick & tired of being vulnerable.  I was still worrying over my children, but there was a new wrinkle.  There was nothing I could do about it.  My Dad just smiled faintly and said nothing.  I continued to anguish over their failures, be tormented by their frustrations and absorbed in their disappointments.

My friends said that when my kids got married I could stop worrying and lead my own Life.  I wanted to believe that, but I was haunted by my dad’s warm smile and his occasional, ‘You look pale.  Are you all right?  Call me the minute you get home.  Are you depressed about something?’  Can it be that parents are sentenced to a lifetime of worry?  Is concern for one another handed down like a torch to blaze the trail of human frailties and the fears of the unknown?  Is concern a curse or is it a virtue that elevates us to the highest form of life?

One of my children became quite irritable recently, saying to me, ‘Where were you?  I’ve been calling for 3 days, and no one answered I was worried.’

I smiled a warm smile.

The torch has been passed.

No Bashing Please!

I don’t know about you, but I truly get upset when people try to use my blog as their platform to “bash” my posts, other people’s beliefs, or the comments some leave me.

I normally just delete these types of comments and don’t give them another thought.  Sometimes I reply to the sender to let them know I’ve deleted their comments and ask them to refrain from using my blog in that manner, but today I got a comment on a post from October 22nd, He Delights In Your Prosperity, a message from Joel Osteen, and I approved it because I felt a strong need to address their views.  Everyone has a right to their opinion, however it is my belief that when you profess to be called by God to deliver His message, you must be held to a higher degree of accountability.  I have always been told that you “don’t mess with God’s anointed”.  There is a way to  handle matters as delicate as “calling out” someone and I don’t believe using my blog is the way to do it.  To me that’s just a cheap and cheesy way to get attention – and that’s all I believe this attempt was, a way to get attention.  It’s funny that the comment was just made today, and the post is over 2 months old.  What about all the Joel Osteen messages I’ve posted?  Where were they then? Well, let me get off this soapbox, I don’t want to get rattled over something like this – it’s not worth the time and energy I’d expend.  So in closing I will simply say this, if you feel the need to use my blog to bash someone, you will be summarily DELETED.  If you are a repeat “offender” you will be marked as SPAM.  Have a  nice day!

Thank You God!

My dear friend Kathy sends  me all kinds of emails, some funny, some cutesy, some thought provoking and some like the one I’m posting below.  I think this is one of the nicest things she’s ever sent me and I want to share it with everyone that reads my bog.  I love this Kathy, thanks so much.

DEAR GOD:

I want to thank You for what you have already done. I am not going to wait until I see results or receive rewards; I am thanking you right now.

I am not going to wait until I feel better or things look better; I am thanking you right now.

I am not going to wait until people say they are sorry or until they stop talking about me; I am thanking you right now.. I am not going to wait until the pain in my body disappears ; I am thanking you right now.

I am not going to wait until my financial situation improves; I am going to thank you right now. I am not going to wait until the children are asleep and the house is quiet; I am going to thank you right now.

I am not going to wait until I get promoted at work or until I get the job; I am going to thank you right now.

I am not going to wait until I understand every experience in my life that has caused me pain o r grief; I am thanking you right now.

I am not going to wait until the journey gets easier or the challenges are removed; I am thanking you right now. I am thanking you because I am alive. I am thanking you because I made it through the day’s difficulties. I am thanking you because I have walked around the obstacles.

I am thanking you because I have the ability and the opportunity to do more and do better.

I’m thanking you because FATHER, YOU haven’t given up on me.

God is just so good, and he’s good all the time so continue to THANK HIM!!

Prayer Update For Kathy

Mary’s Lamb

Okay, my dear friend Doris sent this to me today and I was so moved by it it’s simplicity and the reality of it’s message that I had to pass it on to as many as I could.  Take care and God bless you.

-Briggie ^i^

Think carefully about
what you will be reading.
This is a new one
for me…

marys lamb
Mary! had a little Lamb,
His fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went,
The Lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school each day,
T’wasn’t even in the rule.
It made the children laugh and play,
To have a Lamb at school.

And then the rules all changed one day,
Illegal it became;
To bring the Lamb of God to school,
Or even speak His Name!

Every day got worse and worse,
And days turned into years.
Instead of hearing children laugh,
We heard gun shots and tears.

What must we do to stop the crime,
That’s in our schools today?
Let’s let the Lamb come back to school,
And teach our kids to pray!

About Me Page Updated

If you’ve browsed my blog you may have seen my About Me page.  I decided to use that page to track my weight loss progress from my Gastric Bypass back in June.  I realized that I hadn’t updated my page in over 2 months so today I had my son take my picture (the hair is totally the pits and the outfit isn’t the most flattering).  Looking back I should have done a better job planning the whole thing.  If I had my thinking cap on I would have gotten my hair done and had my best fitting jeans and top on – but that’s the beauty of menopause!  So, if you’re wondering how I look now, head over and check me out!

December Giveaway #2

I have been meaning to have a few giveaways this month, but I’ve had a headache for about a week now and it’s just kept me from being able to do much of anything.  But, I just got done posting the winners of my December Pay It Forward and December Giveaway #1 and I was rummaging through some of my storage containers and found a brand new copy of santa The Autobiography of Santa Claus by Jeff Guinn.  I have to admit 2 things – first, I haven’t read this book and secondly, I bought it last year to read, but somehow it got packed away last Christmas.  About 2 weeks ago I was at Barnes and Noble and picked up another copy (of course I had forgotten that I had bought this same book last year – getting old stinks!!!)  But it’s good luck for one of you lucky readers because I’m gonna give one of my copies away.  All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment and if you subscribe to my feed, you’ll get an extra entry and blogging about this giveaway on your site will get you another entry.  This contest will run until midnight EST December 21st.  Good luck to everyone!

– Briggie ^i^

Thanks to everyone that entered this giveaway. I can’t say enough about the creators of Random.Org – I love it!  So, I put everyone’s names into the list randomizer (those of you who told me you blogged about this giveaway got an extra entry) and then I clicked go and the winner was chosen……Congratulations to bebemiqui of Young Mom in the Big World – you won.  As soon as I get your snail mail, your book will be on it’s way!

December PIF Winner

Boy do I thank God for Random.Org!  This site makes picking winners for giveaways fast and painless.  Well, it’s time to announce my December PIF winner….drumroll please……………….and the winner is……………Emily of Ellinghouse.  As soon as I get her snail mail, her book will be on its way.  A huge THANK YOU to everyone for entered and a special thanks to Overwhelmed With Joy for hosting this wonderful book exchange every month!  Merry Christmas to you all, and happy reading!

Walk Through – Joel Osteen

I got this in my inbox today and it took me to my recent Carnival of Beauty post on the Beauty of Praise.  I hope you enjoy this message from Joel Osteen.  Merry Christmas, and may God bless you and keep you in His care. – Briggie ^i^

Walk Through

Today’s Scripture

“Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me” (Psalm 23:4 NKJV).

Today’s Word from Joel and Victoria

Do you ever feel like you are walking through the valley of the shadow of death? During the tough times, it’s easy to get to discouraged. I love what it says in the verse, “though I walk through…” No matter what you are facing today, know this: you are not alone, and you are just walking through. You don’t have to stop and live in the tough times. They are only temporary. I encourage you today; don’t allow fear to paralyze you in the middle of “the valley of the shadow of death.” Remember, God is with you. He is walking beside you. He is strengthening you. He is making a way of escape for you. He is lining up people and situations to bring you out of that tough place into a place of strength and victory. Don’t give up! Press on and walk through! Begin to get a vision of your life on the other side. See yourself more loving, more faithful, stronger and more blessed than ever before. As you keep moving forward and walking through, you will get to the other side and experience the victory God has in store for you!

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness in my life. Thank You for walking with me even in the hard times. I trust that You are taking me through my circumstances to a place of victory and strength. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

The Carnival Of Beauty – The Beauty Of Praise

Some time ago, I subscribed to The Carnival Of Beauty carnival_of_beauty.jpg and if you’ve ever browsed through all the stuff on my sidebar, you’ve seen it’s icon.  The carnival is pretty cool.  It was started back in 2005 by Sallie, and has since been passed on to Amanda.  Each week there is a new hostess and a new theme.  This week’s carnival is all about “The Beauty Of Praise”.  When I got the email that this was this week’s theme, something stirred in me and I decided to participate.  I sent my entry to this week’s hostess, who just happens to be Sara from Stones Of Remembrance, and then this morning I felt an urge to post it on my blog so here it is. After you read my post, head on over to Amanda’s blog and check out how you can become a part of the Carnival, and as always, I welcome your thoughts and feedback.

The Beauty Of Praise

You hear it all the time, “Praise God”! Like when you tell someone your testimony, they’ll answer back, “Praise God!” Or how about when you share a victory over an illness, there’s sure to be someone right there with a “Praise God!” And you heard it here, the next time you receive a financial blessing, I’m sure there’s bound to be a “Praise God!” Now don’t get me wrong, I’m the first one to give God a shout out! I don’t begrudge anyone and their praises, I’m all for it.

But what about when you are faced with a trial, do you or anyone else say, “Praise God!”? Are our first thoughts to give Him thanks – probably not? It’s easy to praise Him when we are being blessed with healing or money or the job we want. We even say “Praise God!” when we get a good parking space at the store or catch a sale we didn’t know about, but where is our praises when things aren’t going so well? We’ve heard it said that we should give thanks and praise at ALL times. Doesn’t that mean in the hard times as well as the good? I know some of you are thinking, she’s out of her mind saying we should praise God when things aren’t going well, but hear me out.

Psalm 23 tells us that, “yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for Thou art with me!” Notice the part where it says we walk through. We don’t get stuck in the valley forever; God tells us we are going to walk through it. He also tells us not to fear any evil, and why is that? It’s because He is with us. We aren’t walking through that valley alone, He is there with us. I’ve heard it said, “If He leads you to it, He will help you through it”. If he led us into that valley, there is a good reason for it. Perhaps He wants us to learn something to help equip us for a future endeavor. Or perhaps He wants us to stop a behavior that is harmful to us or He wants us to overcome something that has kept us from being closer to Him. Whatever the reason, there is good on the other side, there is victory at the end of the journey, there is someone waiting to shout “Praise God!”

I say, don’t wait for them to shout – we should shout “Praise God” while on the journey! Let God know that whatever His will for us is, we are willing to submit to it. I think if we praise Him in the hard times, they don’t last so long. Our praise releases His anointing and power. God inhabits the praise of His people so if we keep His praises on our lips and in our hearts in good times and in bad, the good times will be that much better and the bad times will be fewer.

They say we use more muscles to frown than to smile – that makes me think we use less energy being happy than being upset. So, remember to praise Him in the good times and when the bad times do come, pump up the volume on your praise!

Take care and God bless you all,

Briggie

The Prince Of Peace

This message is from Joel Osteen Ministries.  I received it in my inbox today and knew I had to share it.  Take care and may God bless you with the peace that only He can bring – the peace that surpasses all understanding! – Briggie ^i^

The Prince of Peace

Today’s Scripture

“…and His name shall be called…the Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

Today’s Word from Joel and Victoria

Aren’t you glad Jesus is our Prince of Peace? He rules our hearts with peace. He gives us peace that passes understanding—which means we can have peace when it doesn’t make sense. We can have peace in the midst of the storm. We can have peace in the midnight hour. We can have peace when gas prices go up and the housing market goes down. We can have constant peace because we are connected to the true source of peace! Do you need more peace in your life? Call on the Prince of Peace. Give Him your burdens and cares. The Bible says that His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. When we are working and living the way God intends—full of peace and joy—we are carrying His “light” burden. We are working with His “easy” yoke. Don’t carry the worries and stresses of this life! Call on the Prince of Peace, and He’ll take you places that you’ve never dreamed. His peace will open doors for you that No one can shut! Walk in His peace, and you will walk in the life of victory the Lord has in store for you!

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, thank You for peace that guides and protects me. I choose Your Word today which says that I can walk and live in Your peace. Thank You for being the Prince of Peace in my life today. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
