Works For Me Wednesday – 3rd Edition

wfmwheader

For those of you who’ve known me for some time, or have been reading my blog you know that I have suffered from sleep depravation for many years.  I’ve been on just about every known prescription and non-prescription sleep aide on the market, with no real success, and had to be weaned off of Ambien and Lunesta!  Well, a very good friend of mine recently told me about Melatonin, which is a natural sleep aide and it’s very inexpensive to boot.

Before I decided to try it, I went to www.melatonin.com and found some very interesting information.  Our bodies naturally produce Melatonin, it’s a hormone produced naturally in the pineal gland at the base of the brain – cool huh!?!

I bought a 60 tablet bottle (3mg per tablet)  at Target the other day in their vitamin aisle.  It was under $4, and came with an extra 60 tablets.  I take 1 about 1 hour before I want to fall asleep and I get about 6-8 hours of restful sleep.  I’ve taken it the past 4 nights and I can honestly say, I feel so much better.  I go to bed around 11pm, take 1 Melatonin, read or do my Sudoku, and within an hour, I’m in la-la land.  I’m also getting up between 8 and 9 am and I am loving it.  I was having so much trouble for the past month or so, when my family was awake, I was asleep.  I would wake up around 4pm, and be up till 7 or 8am the next day.  I would lay down for a nap, then the same thing would happen the next day.

I can also tell you that you don’t get the weird fuzzy or lightheaded feeling either – I can’t tell you how much better I feel and how nice it is to be up with my family.

New Every Morning

New Every Morning

Today’s Scripture

“His compassion’s never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23 NASB).

Today’s Word from Joel and Victoria

You may have done something last week or last month that you’re not particularly happy about, but the good news is you don’t have to carry that around with you. That’s part of what the Scripture means when it says that God’s mercies are new every morning. God’s mercy and forgiveness are available to you each and every day. His compassion’s never fail. That means that as soon as you call on Him and repent and change your ways, God pours out His compassion and forgiveness. Simply open your heart and receive it. You can have a new beginning every single day! Do you feel like there’s something between you and God right now? Take a moment and call on His faithfulness. Call on His mercy. Ask for His forgiveness. Don’t waste another moment in the past. Let Him refresh and restore your soul right now. Praise Him and thank Him for the work He is doing in your life and enjoy a fresh new beginning today!

A Prayer for Today

God, I don’t want to go through another day dragging the weight of the past. Thank You for opening the door of that prison and setting me free. Help me to claim and enjoy Your new mercies each day. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Box Tops For Education

boxtops.gif

Okay, I’m sure there are a lot of moms with kids in schools that participate in Box Tops For Education, but I figured I’d give it a try anyway.  My daughter, Tylar is in the high school band.  They are asking the kids to bring in as many NON EXPIRED Box Tops For Education as they can now through December.  The student who brings in the most will win a $25.00 cash prize, which will go towards her band trip next year!  I spread the word through my email buddies, and I thought I would pass it along to my cyber buddies.

You find these boxtops on specially marked boxes of General Mills cereals, and my friend Debbie, who just sent me a snack baggie full of them told me she found a bonus box top on the GM cereal as Sams Club.

If you already buy GM cereals and wouldn’t mind cutting the box tops and saving them for me, just let me know by leaving me a comment.  I’ll happily send you a postage paid return envelope to save you the postage!

The Five Finger Prayer

five finger prayer

This is so neat. I just got this from my Mom today and I had never heard this before. This is beautiful – and it is surely worth making the 5 finger prayer a part of our lives.

1. Your thumb is nearest you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis once said, a “sweet duty.”

2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.

3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God’s guidance.

4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that this is our weakest finger, as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.

5. And lastly comes our little finger – the smallest finger of all which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, “The least shall be the greatest among you. ” Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.

A Prayer Of Faith And Power

I received this from Joel Osteen Ministries and wanted to share it with you.

A Prayer Of Faith And Power

Dear God, I believe with all my heart that You have an exciting purpose and plan for me.

I want to live according to Your will so I can experience Your power to overcome

life’s obstacles and experience Your peace even in the middle of tough circumstances.

Help me to live with an attitude of faith and expectancy today, knowing

that You want to do great things in my life and use me to bless others.

Give me a teachable spirit, and the ability to stand strong in adversity.

And give me a servant’s heart that looks for ways to meet other people’s needs.

Thank You for what You are dong to prepare me for a life of victory,

abundance and blessing beyond anything I could ask or even imagine.

I pray all of this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

Now I Sit Me Down In School

prayerhead.gif

kids-in-school2.jpg kids-in-school.jpg

Now I sit me down in school, where praying is against the rule.

For this great nation under God, finds mention of Him very odd.

prayercrayon.gif

If Scripture now the class recites, it violates the Bill of Rights.

And anytime my head I bow, becomes a federal matter now.

prayercrayon.gif

Our hair can be purple, orange and green. That’s no offense; it’s a freedom scene.

The law is specific, the law is precise. Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

prayercrayon.gif

For praying in a public hall, might offend someone with no faith at all.

In silence alone we must meditate, God’s name is prohibited by the state.

prayercrayon.gif

We’re allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, and pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.

They’ve outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible, to quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant senior queen, and the “unwed daddy” our senior queen.

It’s inappropriate to teach right from wrong, we’re taught that such judgements don’t belong.

prayercrayon.gif

We can get our condoms and birth controls, study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.

But the Ten Commandments are not allowed. No Word of God must reach this crowd.

It’s scary here I must confess, when chaos reigns the school’s a mess.

So Lord, this silent plea I make: should I be shot, my soul please take! Amen!

Trust Him

A message from Joel Osteen

Today’s Scripture

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV).

Today’s Word from Joel and Victoria

Do you need God’s direction in your life? Often times, the Lord will instruct your heart to do something that’s just the opposite of what your natural mind thinks you should do. It doesn’t make sense, but God’s principals are very different from the world’s principals. In the natural, it doesn’t make sense that if you are in need, you should give to someone-you should sow a seed. But you can trust God’s Word that says “what you sow, you shall reap.” You can trust that God’s system is set up for your good. His system is set up to prosper you and not harm you. He wants to give you a future and a hope. As you step out and trust God and obey His word-even when you don’t understand-He promises to direct your paths. He promises that your path will shine brighter and brighter every single day!

A Prayer for Today

Thank You, God, for directing my path today. Thank You for opening my heart to trust You today. Keep me close to You and teach me to hear Your voice so that I may please You all the days of my life. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

I want to thank everyone that takes the time to visit my blog on a regular basis.  I know there have been a lot of changes over the past month or two, and you have all taken it in stride!

You’ll notice that I’ve added some RSS Feeds and Podcast Links to my site today and my blogroll is back.  When I changed my theme, I didn’t realize that my blogroll wasn’t at the bottom of the page anymore!  Sorry guys, I know this is a big help and you’ll be glad to see that I’ve put it back – it’s now on the sidebar because this theme does not have a bottom bar!

Hope you enjoy the new look and take advantage of the Podcasts.  You’ll also notice that I’ve added an email subscription so you can get my posts delivered right into your email inbox!  How awesome is God for giving us such cool technology!?!

I welcome your feedback and hope to hear from you!  Take care, God bless and as Kenneth Copeland says, “Remember that Jesus is Lord!!!” (fyi, i’m trying to add his podcast to my site, but there seems to be a problem with the code for his reader.  if i can fix it, i will!!)

Works For Me Wednesday – Returning Containers

wfmwheader.jpg

I was browsing through the blogs I subscribe to and came across Jill’s post for this week over at The Diaper Diaries and I got an idea to piggy back off of her post and stick my 2 cents in.

So, she was saying how she has all these food storage containers in her trunk that she has to return to their owners (she recently had another baby a few months ago and was blessed by friends / family with meals to take some of the workload off her) and that she feels it’s best to use disposable containers versus nice dishes / tupperware. She also has a few really cool tips for the “giver” of the meals so pop over and check her post out! This way the receiver of the item does not have to worry about returning it. Another plus is the giver doesn’t have to worry about asking for it back!

Now, if you must use one of your nice bowls or casserole dishes that’s fine, but make a note (not a mental one, we all know that at one point or another we suffer from short term memory loss and for folks like me who suffer from CRS – can’t remember spit, it’s just pointless to even try to commit it to memory) and post it on the fridge stating what dish you sent and who you sent it to. That way, when you go looking for it, you’ll know who to call if you can’t find it!

My other point is this – if you are on the receiving end of a dish that must be returned, you NEVER return it empty. At least that’s what I’ve been told. You don’t have to put food in it if you don’t feel like cooking, although there’s nothing wrong with putting something from a nice restaurant or bakery in there! I’ve put things like gift cards to their favorite store (I even gave one to the grocery store one time), prayer cards, bookmarkers, a popular paperback, a dvd, crossword / sudoku puzzle books, a nice pen, stationary, something cute I found at the local dollar store – well you get the point. Think about the person who gave you the dish, then put something in it that they would like. It’s even great when you give something you made, a poem you wrote or even a personalized Thank You card telling the giver what a blessing they were. Remember, you don’t have to try and match the value of what you were given with what you are giving back – it’s the thought that counts.

Don’t forget to mosey on over to Rocks In My Dryer to see more of WFMW posts! Bye ya’ll and have a wonderfully blessed Wednesday!

testing 1,2,3…

windows-beta-banner.png

I was just told about an awesome tool called Windows Live Writer by one of my blogging buddies, Laura from over at Laura Williams’ Musings and I’m testing it out…  If you click on the Windows icon it will take you to the download page.  Now, as with anything new, I have to figure out how to actually use it, if it works with wordpress and weigh the pros and cons.  I’ve only been using wordpress for posting so of course I’m comfortable with it but there have been a few times when I’ve had trouble with how the posts come out, so change is good as long as it doesn’t cause me to pull out my hair!

A Blameless Heart

A message from Joel Osteen

You know, I was just about to turn off my computer and hit the hay when I noticed a new mail message in my email inbox and when I saw it was from Joel Osteen, I had to check it out. So, I opened up the message and when I began to read today’s scripture I quickly became very still and had a check in my spirit. Sometimes we need reminding that God has His eyes on us all and I’m sorry for stealing that line from “My Little Town”, but it’s true. The thought that His eyes run to and fro throughout the land shakes my soul and makes me want to make sure He sees me, the way He wants me to be.

A Blameless Heart

Today’s Scripture

“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong in behalf of those whose hearts are blameless toward Him” (2 Chronicles 16:9 AMP).

Today’s Word from Joel and Victoria

Do you need God to move in your life today? The Bible says that God is actually looking to show Himself strong in the earth. He is looking for those who have a blameless heart toward Him. When you open your heart to Jesus and ask Him to forgive you and cleanse you by His blood, then He gives you a blameless heart—then you are the person the Lord is looking to work through! When you understand the fact that God longs to work in your life, your faith will increase. Your hope will increase. And God’s work in your life will increase! Have confidence in this scripture today. Begin to thank God for giving you a clean and blameless heart. Thank Him for choosing to work in your life. As you thank and praise Him, look for His goodness and strength in your life. As you do, you will see God move in unexpected ways today and every day!

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, thank You for the blood of Jesus which cleanses my sins and gives me a blameless heart. Search my heart today and remove anything that isn’t pleasing to You. I open my heart to You and invite You to work in every area of my life. I bless You and thank You for Your faithfulness. In Jesus Name. Amen.
