The Golden Compass

My mom forwarded an email to me today about the movie, “The Golden Compass”, which is due out this December.  I think this is a serious matter and warrants passing the information along to as many people as possible, so I am putting it on my blog.  Take care and God bless.

Dear Friends & Family~

I don’t usually send e-mails out of alarm, but I just want you all to be aware of something I just discovered.

See this link re: an upcoming children’s movie that will be released on Dec. 7 during the Christmas season.  The Golden Compass appears to be a great film — I saw the previews with my son and we both got excited about going to see it.  Not anymore!!!

I just found out that the author of this trilogy is an atheist and is trying to influence children against God .  He hates C.S. Lewis and the Narnia series, so he set out to write his own books in opposition.  His writing has been called “dangerous,” yet he has won the 2007 Carnegie of Carnegie’s to celebrate the best book in the past 70 years!

According to this link, in the movie, his agenda is apparently handled carefully.  But once the children who love the movie get the books, that’s where the real damage may be done .  In the end, the girl who travels from place to place kills the senile God and everyone can do what they please. The movie stars Nicole Kidman, so this will get a lot of publicity.

I’m not ready to lead a charge of revolt and boycott, I just wanted you to be well informed to make the best choice for yourself.   Please, click the link below and read all the details before you buy the books or see the  movie!

A Testimony From One Of My Readers

Hi everyone.  Daniel posted this comment under my October Pay It Forward and it I knew it was too awesome to leave as just a comment so I’m posting it for everyone to read and share in his wonderful testimony.  May the peace that only Yeshua can bring be yours today.  Take care and God bless you. – Briggie

Shalom,

I would like to share this testimony with all to the glory of Yeshua!!!

Baptized In The Name Of Jesus

I myself can testify of the change that took place after I was recently water Baptized in the Name of Jesus.

Immediately as I came up out of the water I knew something that I never experienced before had happened.

From that moment, drinking, cursing, lying, etc was gone! I mean gone! My whole attitude was rearranged and changed where I now wanted to serve God and hungered after Him like never before!

Coming out of the water all I could do was lift up my arms towards the sky praising and thanking God!
This change has not left me but increased! Since then doors have opened up for me that were closed where I want and can serve God like never in the past.

No I did not speak in tongues, they will come, but first I needed cleaning up spiritually. The Lord Jesus Christ took all the stumbling blocks out of my way. I was going down the tubes and most likely headed for hell. Thank the Almighty God for His mercy, kindness forgiveness and rescue from my folly!

Years ago I was water baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost but not in the Name of Jesus!!!. No change like this took place. But now I walk with Jesus in newness of life, I walk now after the Spirit, not after the flesh, Praise God!!!

Prayer Request For Kathy

Dear readers and prayer partners, I need your help.  I just learned that Kathy, a sister of a very dear friend of ours was just diagnosed with a very aggressive form of Lung Cancer at Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

Kathy was a heavy smoker until 2001 when she tried to quit smoking but was on again off again until 2004 when she kicked the habit once and for all.  Kathy wasn’t feeling well the other night so had her husband take her to the emergency room and it was then that they learned of her illness.

While they do not have children of their own, they are very involved in the lives of their many nieces and nephews taking them on ski trips, attending their birthdays and functions as well as hosting sleep overs for 17 nieces.  Kathy has a very large family and she is very close to each of them and is a devout Catholic.

Dear Father, through Your Word, You have imparted Your life to Kathy.  That life restores her body with every breath she takes and every word she speaks.  This disease was not planted by God, so we declare that is must depart, wither and dissolve in the mighty name of Jesus.  Kathy’s body is the temple of the Holy Ghost and we command her body to release the proper chemicals to fight and ward off this cancer.  We declare that her body is in perfect balance and that her lungs, tissue and every organ work in the perfection that God created it to perform.  In the name of Jesus, we forbid her body to be deceived in any manner.  Body, you will not be deceived by this cancer.  Neither will you work against the life and health in her body in any way.  Every cell in Kathy’s body supports life and health.  Lord, Your Word says that whatsoever we bind on earth is bound in Heaven and whatsoever is loosed in Heaven is loosed on earth.  Lord we bind the enemy and his evil curse and cast them both into the abyss in the precious name of Jesus.  Father, we loose Your healing power into her body.  Jehovah Rappha, touch her and bring her body back to the perfection it was created in.  Lord, give Your angels charge over her and guard her against defeat in her mind, body and soul.  God, Pour out your strength upon her and her husband and family members and give them the peace that can only be given by You.  We ask this in the precious, matchless and wonderful name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for California Residents and Firefighters

Everyday for the past 4 days we’ve been watching the news and the top story has been the fires in California.  Just 4 years ago the news was full of the same reports.  Wild fires ran rampant through California and destroyed thousands of homes, acres of land and 22 lives.  This year, thousands of people have lost their homes, thousands of acres of land have been destroyed and while there are reports that some of the fires have been contained with several others rage out of control only 1 life has been lost to date.  Praise God!  Homes can be rebuilt, things can be re-bought, the land will heal itself, but you can’t replace a lost loved one.

As I watch the news my thoughts and prayers go out to those that have lost their homes or are in danger of losing theirs.  I pray that God gives them the strength to face what lies ahead and peace to move beyond what they’ve lost.  I cannot imagine how they feel or the magnitude of their loss, I only know that God and God alone can help them rebuild their homes and their lives.  As I watch the planes fly overhead, I get a lump in my throat and my heart skips a beat because I know how dangerous the work they do is.  I’m reminded of the movie, “Always”, with Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter and Audrey Hepburn.  If you haven’t seen it yet, make it a point to rent it – it’s a really good movie.

Anywho, getting back to the fires…As dangerous as it is for those flying above the flames, it is equally life threatening for those on the ground.  The news tonight showed the “ground jumpers” trying to maneuver through the hilly terrain to get to small fires, that just pop up out of nowhere so they can put them out before they rage out of control.  At any moment, the smoke alone can put them at risk not to mention the heavy suits they wear, the risk of dehydration or falling limbs.

So I ask you all to join me and pray for the residents of California, for those who lost their homes to the fires, for the friends and family that lost a loved one and for those who risk their lives to put out the fires.

He Delights In Your Prosperity

Did you ever hear a message and know that God was trying to speak to you through it?  I have been reading Charles Capps booklet “God’s Creative Power For Finances” and I have been praying for a financial breakthrough.  Back in 2004 I became ill and have not been able to return to work.  I have not had an income since August 2004 when my disability ran out.   We exhausted our savings and have been using our credit cards to supplement our income and now we have the proverbial “glass ceiling”.  I was hoping to collect SSDI, however since I had my Gastric Bypass in June of this year I have not been able to take any of my medication and as far as the Government is concerned if I don’t take medication, I must not be sick.  I know that God is in control and He supplies my needs according to His riches in heaven and that I must have faith in Him and His purpose.  I was watching Kenneth Copeland’s message this morning and it was on faith.  He was saying that we must stand in faith and say, “I don’t care what it looks like, I know God has taken care of this so I’m just going to stand in faith until it is completed!”  So, I don’t care what my health appears to be like right now, I know God has healed me, and I don’t care what my finances look like or how much money is in my bank account, or what bills I owe, I know that God has already taken care of them so I’m just going to stand in faith, accept His blessing and purpose and wait.  And if you don’t think that God talks to us, this was the message in my email today from Joel Osteen Ministries, so I would guess that it’s safe to say that God has heard my prayers and is trying to tell me something.  Please keep me in your prayers.  Take care and God bless you all, Briggie ^i^

A message from Joel Osteen

Today’s Scripture

“Let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His children” (Psalm 35:27).

Today’s Word from Joel and Victoria

God desires that you be blessed and prosperous. He desires that you be so blessed that you can turn around and be a blessing everywhere you go! He wants you to have so much peace, so much joy, so much victory that when other people get around you it spills over onto them! In the book of Psalms, David said, “My cup runs over.” He was overflowing with the anointing—the tangible, effective power of God. Don’t let yourself have a barely-get-by-mentality. Jesus came so that you can live an abundant life! That means an abundance of joy, an abundance of peace, an abundance of health, an abundance of finances. You may not see it right now, and maybe you haven’t experienced it in the past, but don’t get complacent and just settle for where you are. Get a vision for your future! Get a vision for increase! Get a vision for abundance!” God delights to see you prosperous and successful. When you choose to think God’s thoughts and choose God’s way, you’ll see that increase and victory in every area of your life!

A Prayer for Today

Father in Heaven, thank you for delighting in my prosperity. Thank You for the blessings You have in store for me. Help my thoughts to be agreeable to Your will. Help me develop a vision for the abundant life You have in store so that I can be a blessing to those around me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen

Prayer Request – Let God Be God

I subscribe to lots of blogs and came across this post from Chris Reeder over at Let God Be God.  Please keep him and his wife in prayer and ask God to bless them with favor in both the purchase of their new home and sale of their current one.  Ask God to pour out His blessings over their finances and their ministry in the might name of Jesus, Amen.

The Cost of Obedience: Priceless

As many of you may already know, Susanne and I surrendered to God’s call to ministry last HouseFrontMarch. We have been fervently praying for God’s will in our lives, and for His guidance in the next step(s) we should be taking in obedience to accomplish His will.

After much prayer, we have decided to sell our home.

We have had a burden on our hearts for over a year now concerning financial freedom (thanks Joe), and while we have made great strides in getting there, we feel that this will be a BIG STEP towards finally making it happen!

We know that God is in control, and we have already found a home that is going to be a step of faith. We are trusting that God will sell our house quickly and He can make it happen!

Buy purchasing this home, we will accomplish two things…we will be DEBT FREE except for a mortgage (which by the way will be a little more than half of what we are currently paying) and we will also be fulfilling a dream of being “out in the country” on a few acres of land.

HouseBackPlease pray for favor with the owners of this property (a sister and two brothers selling their mother’s home) and for God’s perfect plan to be accomplished.  We have not listed our house with a realtor because financially that would be a bit of a set back, so we are trying to sell it on our own.

We have constructed a website at www.2121TwinBridge.com for potential buyers to view, and we have made printable flyers to distribute. If you know of anyone that would be interested in buying our house, please let them know. Otherwise, please pray that the house will sell quickly and that we will be able to accomplish our financial goals.

Thank you all so much for praying, and for being wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ who we can turn to in our trials, laugh with in our joys, weep with in our sorrows, and celebrate with in our successes.  We cannot imagine doing this “thing” called life without you all!!!

What You’re Called & Appointed Favor

Okay, so I know it’s really late, and I know I am supposed to be trying to get my internal clock fixed so that I sleep at night and be awake during the day but I’m not sleepy (even though I took my Melatonin a few hours ago – maybe I need to up the dosage?) so I’m catching up on my email.

I just finished reading yesterday’s daily devotion from Proverbs 31 and I was about to close out my email when I decided to hit Send/Receive and Joel Osteen’s message for today popped in so I had to read that too.

Both of these messages hit home with me and I feel like they go hand in hand so I decided to post them for you to read back to back.  May God richly bless you and keep you in His care.  – Briggie

October 17, 2007 What You’re Called By MaryBeth Whalen

“To them I will give within my temple and its walls a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that will not be cut off.” Isaiah 56:5 (NIV)

Devotion:  Recently, my fifteen-year-old son posted this quote on our refrigerator message board:

It’s not what you’re called, it’s what you’re called to do.

After I read what he wrote, I thought about the message contained in that short thought.  I thought about how that is exactly the way God sees us.  There are many examples of this in the Bible, but I thought specifically of two.

When Gideon is hiding out threshing wheat in a winepress, the angel of the Lord comes to him and says, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”  (Judges 6:12)  Later, Gideon reveals that he is far from a mighty warrior.  Instead he sees himself as a least of these.  He says, “How can I save Israel?  My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family” (Judges 6:15). The angel of the Lord looked past what Gideon was called or how he saw himself.  Instead he focused on what Gideon was called to do.  He didn’t see a least of these, he saw a mighty warrior.  He knew that Gideon had that potential within him if he would only trust God and take a step of faith.  Gideon did, and a nation was saved.

Peter was the other example that came to my mind.  Peter’s name was Simon, which meant “shifty.”  But that is not what Jesus saw.  He saw the potential within Peter.  He immediately changed Peter’s name from Simon to Cephas (or, Peter), which means “rock” (John 1:42). Jesus looked past what Peter was called, to what He knew Peter would be called to do.  Indeed, after Jesus’ ascension, Peter led the early church, preaching at Pentecost and rising to the calling on his life as the rock on which Jesus would build His church.

These stories bring me comfort as I think of the things I have been called in my life—the things I have believed about myself.  I think of my shortcomings and my past, and I know that apart from God, I can do no good thing.  My only hope is in the transformation God can and will work within me, day by day.  In my own strength, I will always be a least of these, shifty and of no account.  But in God’s hands, I can be a mighty warrior, a rock.

God doesn’t see me as I am, He sees me as I can be.  He doesn’t leave us as we are, but renews us with each new day.  It isn’t what I am called, it’s what I am called to do.  I must remember that so I can become what God has already determined I can be.

Dear Lord, help me to see myself as You see me, not as what I have believed about myself in the past.  Help me to hear Your voice speaking my real name.  Help me to fulfill my calling so I can bring glory and honor to Your name. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Message From Joel Osteen

Appointed Favor

Today’s Scripture October 19th

“For we are God’s handiwork, recreated in Christ Jesus, that we may do those good works which God predestined for us, taking paths which He prepared ahead of time, that we should walk in them, living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live” (Ephesians 2:10).

Today’s Word from Joel and Victoria

God has already prepared paths for you to take in your future! When God laid out the plan for your life, He lined up the right people, the right circumstances, and the right breaks. In your future, He’s already released favor, supernatural opportunities, and divine connections. The breaks you need in life have already been preordained to come across your path. If you will stay in faith and go out each day and be a person of excellence, you’ll walk into these appointments of favor. It will be just as if you stumbled into God’s blessings! When you really understand this principal, you’ll begin to get excited about every single day! You’ll have a spring in your step as you think about what blessing is coming next! It could be today. It could be tomorrow. It could be next week. Keep expecting. Keep believing. Stay focused on the fact that God has already released into your future everything you need to fulfill your destiny. Start declaring seasons of increase over your life. Declare that the favor is on you and opportunities are coming. As you do, you’ll move forward into the favor and blessing God has ordered for you!

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, thank You for setting up a good life for me. Thank You for ordering good things for my future. Help me to understand Your goodness more so that I can trust You and follow Your path for me all the days of my life. In Jesus Name, Amen.

I was hobbling around the blogsphere checking out posts from other Thursday Thirteener’s when I came across a post from an awesome blogger at Momm’in It Up!  Her post is not a TT, it’s actually a WFMW, which is a Works For Me Wednesday that is hosted by Shannon over at Rocks In My Dryer.  Yes, I normally post something on my blog for WFMW, but I’ve missed the past 2 weeks because I’ve been a bit under the weather.  Hopefully I’ll post one next week.  Well, back to Momm’in It Up!

I loved her post so much and it was such a blessing to me, I just had to post it here on my blog.  I hope y’all don’t mind, but I’m just going to cut and paste her post because it says everything that needs to be said.  If you want to read her post in it’s entirety click HERE.  Now, I went to the Angel Food Ministries website, and there are several churches in my area that participate!  What a blessing and how wonderful is that?  Now, if your storehouse is full and you don’t need to order a food box, you can bless someone and give a donation to their ministry to help others.

WFMW: Saving Money on Groceries

A few months ago, when my husband and I decided I would quit my job to be a stay-at-home-mom, he told me, “Your new job is to figure out how we can afford for you to stay home.” As one who’s always been a) a worrier about money and b) a lover of a bargain, I was eager to rise to this challenge! It also helps that I’m c) a bit of a control freak and this quest has helped me feel some control over our financial well-being also. So, today I thought I’d share with you some changes in my grocery-getting that have really helped our family save money and stay on-budget.

The first thing I’ve done is take advantage of a low-cost grocery program called Angel Food Ministries. Before I explain it, let me tell you that is seems too good to be true, but it is actually true and I will testify to that! Here’s the dealy-o: Angel Food Ministries has a monthly menu of foods that will feed a family of four for one week. The food is very good quality and is only $25 for one unit (you can order as many units as you would like). You place your order and pick it up once a month at a participating local church. Here’s what I ordered and will be picking up on Saturday, October 27th:

(4) 5 oz. Ribeye Steaks
(1) 3 lbs. Breaded Frying Chicken
(1) 2 lbs. Salisbury Steak Entrée w/ Gravy
(1) 24.5 oz. Supreme Pizza
(1) 2 lb. Chicken Chunks
(1) 24 oz. Pork Roast
(1) 16 oz. Chicken Breast Fajitas
(1) 12 ct. Corn Tortilla
(1) 15 oz. Pork & Beans
(1) 16 oz. Fresh Carrots
(1) 24 oz. Homestyle Hashbrowns
(1) 16 oz. Corn
(1) 16 oz. Bean Soup Mix
(1) 5.5 oz. Pancake Mix
(1) 7.5 oz. Mac & Cheese
(1) 7 oz. Lasagna Dinner
(1) Dessert Item

Yes, my friends, I am getting all that food for $25! The menu is different every month and they also offer a number of specials that you can purchase in addition to your regular order. The specials are such a great deal that we actually bought a freezer for our basement just so we can order additional specials if we like more than one! Here are this month’s specials:

OCTOBER SPECIAL #1
Meat Combo Box $18.00
4 8-oz T- Bones
2 lb. Ribeye Roast

OCTOBER SPECIAL #2
Strip Steak Special $18.00

Angel Food Ministries has been a real blessing to my family. Go to their website to see if it is available in your area! I strongly suggest you try it, you literally have almost nothing to lose!

Thursday Thirteen 8th Edition

pumpkin TT

I didn’t post a TT last week because I haven’t been feeling too hot.  I was sitting at my computer when it dawned on me that unless I got my butt in gear I was gonna miss another one this week.  Once I decided to post a TT, I created a new button for fall.  I’m so proud of myself.  I’m learning how to use Paint to create my own stuff, so much fun.  Anyway, now that I have my button, the question I was faced with was, “What in the world should this weeks post be about”?  Then, it hit me.  I’m getting ready to have a yard sale and I thought, why not post 13 things you should do to have a successful event.

1.  Give everyone in the house (that is old enough to determine what to keep and what not to keep) 3 big boxes.  If you can’t get a hold of boxes, use the 30, 33 or 39 gallon trash bags.  Have them go through their rooms and put any items in the boxes they no longer want or need such as toys, clothes, books, costume jewelry, moves, music etc.  One one box write in big letters, Yard Sale, on another write, Donate and on the last one write, TRASH.  Of course, you get to go through the boxes once they are done and make the final determination of where the items should really go.  If you prefer to use boxes (like me) you can buy them at Lowe’s or Home Depot or Sam’s club.  What I like about them is that when you are done with them, you can unfold them and make them flat and store them away.  If you like dumpster diving, sometimes you can find boxes behind stores like Target, Bed Bath and Beyond.  If you know someone that works in the store, you can ask them to save the boxes for you, or ask when they get deliveries and see if they’ll let you have the emptied boxes.

2.  Once everyone has gone through their things it’s time to hit the attic, basement, hall closets, linen closet, kitchen cabinets, the tool shed and any other storage container that hasn’t been gone through and do the same thing with these items as listed in item # 1.

3.  Now, for the Trash box, it’s a good idea to start going through your things at a time so that you get everyone to fill the boxes a day or two before Trash Day so you don’t have a ton of boxes laying around.

4.  As for the Donations box, you can give it to your local Church, Goodwill, Red Cross, Purple Heart or Military Veterans.  If you aren’t in a hurry to get the items out of your house you can also post them on www.craigslist.org for your local area.  Remember to write down the date of the donation and the fair market value for tax purposes.

5.  Now that you have your things narrowed down to just the yard sale items, it’s time to clean them up and price them.  You can make price tags out of paper and tape them onto the items, or you can staple them onto the tags of clothing.  You can also go to your local office supply store and purchased pre-printed labels/dots/tags.  They usually come in denominations of 25 cents to 5 dollars and then there are a few blank ones you can write your own prices on.  You can also use a color code system and have a few charts floating around for customers to see.  For example, items with a yellow dot are $1, blue dot items are $2. etc.  It’s also a neat idea when you have a BOGO offer like buy one get another half off.  This works especially well toward the end of your day when things slow down and you don’t want to have a lot of left over items that you either end up throwing out or donating.

6.  Set a date and start/end time.  Also make sure you have a rain date just in case.  Make sure you give yourself enough time between getting the stuff together for the yard sale and the date you have the sale.  (You may want to check with your local clerks office to see if you need a permit to have a yard sale.  My first yard sale the police stopped by and asked to see my permit.  They let me off with a warning since I was new to the neighborhood but don’t take any chances, some towns give stiff fines!)  Also, make sure you don’t clash with a big event that will keep potential customers away.

7.  ADVERTISE, ADVERTISE, ADVERTISE.  List your event on your local craigslist, newspapers, email friends and family and ask them to email their friends and family.  If you are on any volunteer groups for your community or church ask them to pass the word.  When you place your ad, it’s a good idea to tell viewers if you have furniture, tools, baby items, appliances..  Make sure you list your rain date in your ad so you don’t have to advertise again.  If your event is a multi family event, or if you have a lot of things to sell, or must sell because your moving – let people know.  For example – Multi-Family Yard Sale, or HUGE Yard Sale, We’re Moving Yard Sale.

8.  Make large signs using yellow tag board with large black letters.  The more signs the better, but don’t have less than 2.  Post them on a busy street near yours and have one facing in each direction.  You can embellish your signs with balloons or long flowing ribbons to attract attention.  Put your signs up a few days before  your sale to generate interest.

9.  A day or two before your yard sale go through your piggy bank or change collection and dig out your change or go to the bank and get yourself a roll of quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies.  You will also want to have at least $20 in ones, a few fives, tens and a twenty.  You will want to have a good cash box on hand to keep your cash.  If you are lucky enough to get your hands on a waist apron with pockets they come in handy when handling several transactions at one time – make sure the pockets are deep enough.

10.  Save the plastic bags from the store and ask friends and neighbors to save theirs for you too.  They come in handy when bagging your customers purchases.

11.  If you are selling clothes, it’s always nice if you can display them on hangars.  You can do this by stringing rope between two poles or trees or use a free standing garment rack.

12.  If you don’t have portable tables you can use to display your smaller items, consider renting a few.  You can also create a make-shift table by taking your husbands saw-horses and laying a piece of plywood on top (cover it with a old sheet or table cloth to avoid splinters).  You can also use TV trays .  The easier it is for your customers to browse your wares, the more likely they will take their time and do more than just glance over your items.  It’s always a good idea to have a comfy chair for those working the sale and if you have a tent or canopy USE IT!

13.  Start setting up at least 1 hour before your sale is scheduled to begin.  Be prepared for early birds.  One time I had people show up the night before wanting to look through my stuff.  I politely apologized and told them that everything was boxed up but they could stop back again tomorrow while I was setting up.  Don’t let them bully you and unless your know them personally, don’t let them in your home!  When you lay your items out, try to keep some order to your displays and make sure your potential buyers can easily see prices.  You can also make a few extra dollars by selling baked goods and a beverage.  If the weather is cool, coffee, tea and hot chocolate are great sellers and if it’s hot, iced tea and lemonade are big sellers.  Greet your customers with a big smile and hello.  I like to have a boom box with a CD playing upbeat music in the background (not too loud).  Be prepared to have early birds show up before your sale begins.

Be Prepared.  Heed the saying, Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance!  Good luck and happy Yard Sale-ing to you all.

Which one would you choose?

My dear friend Doris sent this story to me in an email and I liked it so much I wanted to share with all of you.  May it bless you as it has blessed me.  -Briggie

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said “I don’t think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat.”

image

“Is the man of the house home?”, they asked.

“No”, she replied. “He’s out.”

image

“Then we cannot come in”, they replied.

In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened.
“Go tell them I am home and invite them in!”

image
The woman went out and invited the men in.

image

“We do not go into a House together,” they replied.

“Why is that?” she asked.

image

One of the old men explained: “His name is Wealth,” he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, “He is Success, and I am Love.” Then he added, “Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home.”

The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was overjoyed. “How nice!!”, he said. “Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!”image

His wife disagreed. “My dear, why don’t we invite Success?”

image

Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: “Would it not be better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love!”image

“Let us heed our daughter-in-law’s advice,” said the husband to his wife.  “Go out and invite Love to be our guest.”

image

The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, “Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest.”

image

Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also got up and followed him. Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: “I only invited Love, Why are you coming in?”

The old men replied together: “If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would’ve stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!!!!!!”

MY WISH FOR YOU…

-Where there is pain, I wish you peace and mercy.
-Where there is self-doubting, I wish you a renewed confidence in your ability to work through it.
-Where there is tiredness, or exhaustion, I wish you understanding, patience, and renewed strength.

Betti & Rapheal

Dear friends and prayer partners, please join me in prayer for Betti and Rapheal.  God knows their need so if you would just lift them both up in prayer in your daily prayer time they would very much appreciate it.  They know the power of God’s Word and His Healing and believe that they are healed in the matchless name of Jesus.

Jesus, You are the Lord of Betti and Rapheal’s  lives, therefore, sickness and disease have no power over them.  You bore their sins on Your body while on the cross and by Your stripes they are healed.  Father, because of Your word they are overcomers.  They overcome the sicknesses of the flesh by the Blood of the Lamb.  Lord, Your Word imparts life, and that life restores their bodies with every breath they take and every word they speak.  Father, you have forgiven all our iniquities and have taken away sickness from us, therefore we will live out the rest of our days in health, in Jesus mighty name we pray, Amen.

God bless you all and thank you for partnering in prayer with me.

Blessings In Sleep

I got a great message from Joel Osteen today and when I read it it made me think  why am I still suffering from insomnia when I know 2 things that can relieve me from this awful curse??  1st of all, I should be in constant prayer asking God to deliver me from this disease.  2nd, I have Melatonin but keep forgetting to take it, why is that?  I can only come to the conclusion that the enemy does not want me to be blessed.  He wants to rob me of my days, keep me out of kilter and take my focus off of what God has in store for me.  So, now that I know this, I can guard myself and guard myself against these attacks in the name of Jesus!!! Take care and God bless you all.

Briggie

A message from Joel Osteen

Today’s Scripture

“He gives blessing to His beloved in sleep” (Psalm 127:2 AMP).

Today’s Word from Joel and Victoria

The Lord longs to pour out blessings on you constantly—even when you sleep! Many people today struggle with sleeping at night. They stay awake or get poor sleep because they are constantly focused on their problems and worrying about tomorrow. But that’s not God’s plan for you! He wants you to enjoy your sleep as a time of blessing and refreshing. Understand that God has His hand on your life even in the midnight hour. He wants to speak to your heart and restore your dreams. He is taking care of those things that concern you. When you cast your cares on Him and trust Him to work out every detail of your life, you’ll be able to enjoy that sweet sleep that He has promised. Make the decision today to enjoy the blessing of the Lord as you sleep tonight. Say a prayer before you go to bed and cast your cares on Him. As you allow the Lord to bless and refresh you in sleep, you’ll see a tremendous change in your waking hours. You’ll be more invigorated, more alert, and full of the blessing of the Lord in every area of your life!

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise of blessing. I ask that You teach me to receive that blessing even while I sleep. I cast my cares on You and trust that You are working behind the scenes in my life. Thank You for watching over me and protecting me. Thank You for refreshing me as I sleep tonight. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Word Of God Speak

Lately the words to this song have been rolling through my mind and I can only imagine that God is using this song through the Holy Spirit to get my attention again.  I found a clip of the song on You Tube and wanted you to hear it.  The slide show is nice too.  God Bless you!

Word Of God Speak by Mercy Me

I’m finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it’s okay
The last thing I need is to be heard
But to hear what You would say

[CHORUS]
Word of God speak
Would You pour down like rain
Washing my eyes to see
Your majesty
To be still and know
That You’re in this place
Please let me stay and rest
In Your holiness
Word of God speak

I’m finding myself in the midst of You
Beyond the music, beyond the noise
All that I need is to be with You
And in the quiet hear Your voice

[REPEAT CHORUS 2x]

I’m finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it’s okay

A Path To Contentment

I subscribe to Proverbs 31 daily motivation to my email.  I also have it listed as an RSS feed on my sidebar, but when I read today’s message I felt the urging of the Holy Spirit to post it.  The scripture verse is SO POWERFUL, it spoke right to me.  I don’t wish I was with someone else, at least I haven’t for a very long time.  (I have to be honest, there was a time when I wished my husband was more than he is and I wondered if I truly loved him.  Several years ago I came to the understanding that I truly love him and he is all I will ever need, a wonderful father, friend and partner and I was blessed the day he married me), but I have spent plenty of days wondering what my life would be like if I were different.  What if I didn’t move to NJ to live with my dad, what if I were thinner throughout high school, what if I were thinner throughout my 20’s, what if I didn’t start having kids so young, what if I joined the Air Force when I had the chance, or went to college, what if I didn’t get sick and lose my job 3 years ago…  What a comfort this scripture is and how awesome is God’s tiiming that He would have me read it at a time when I am questioning myself and what I am supposed to be doing with my life.

jesus Thank you Lord for never taking Your eyes off me and for keeping me in Your thoughts always.

A Path to Contentment

By Marybeth Whalen

“And don’t be wishing you were someplace else or with someone else. Where you are is God’s place for you.  Live and obey and love and believe right there.  God, not your marital status, defines your life.” I Corinthians 7:17 (MSG)

Devotion:

I have heard it said that comparison is the death of contentment, and truer words were never spoken.  As I read this verse, I was struck by what Paul was saying.  His words took me back to a place in my life when I was discontent with my marriage, my home, my children, and my life.  I looked around me for answers and compared my situation to others.  The trouble was I had limited information as to what was really going on in other people’s lives.  I could only see what they wanted me to see, what they chose to reveal.

This habit of comparison led me to dissatisfaction with my husband.  If only he were more godly.  If only he were more attentive.  If only he made more money.  If only he understood me better.  If only he were like so and so’s husband, then… This vicious cycle continued for many years, diminishing my husband in my eyes, and defeating our marriage from the outside in.  Unless something changed, we were doomed to join the statistics.

It was the Truth in this verse that led me to stop the madness.  Instead of focusing on other people, I focused on my husband.  Instead of wishing away what God had given me, I started counting my blessings.  Instead of wanting what I didn’t have, I worked at wanting what I had already been given.  This external shift in perspective resulted in an internal heart change.  Over time, I learned to live out the Truth in this verse.

If you break the verse down, you find three parts.

One: Don’t be wishing you were someplace else or with someone else.  This statement is true for both spouses, and reflects an attitude that is rampant in the culture.  Be careful of the times you say to yourself, “If only…” Those statements lead down a dangerous road.

Two: Where you are is God’s place for you.  For reasons you may not understand, God has allowed you to be in the place you are in.  Instead of spending time wishing it away, spend time seeking God to determine His purposes for you.  Use this as an opportunity for spiritual growth.  This is true for singles as well as married couples.

Three: God defines your life.  Don’t let your spouse, position, address, income, or anything else define you.  If you have been guilty of letting these things define you, ask for His forgiveness and take steps to break free from these attitudes today.  Spend some time letting the God of the Universe tell you who you are and what He sees in you.  Don’t look to your spouse, your friends, your coworkers, neighbors or family members for these answers.

These three steps will lead you down a new path.  This path leads to hope and contentment, freedom and abundance.

Dear Lord, Please tell me who I am in You.  Help me to seek your answers and not look to other people’s situations as a solution.  Help me find the path You have carved out for me so I can live the life of freedom and abundance You have uniquely planned for me.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Holiday Cooking, Blogger Style

holidaycooking

Overwhelmed With Joy is hosting her 2nd Annual Holiday Cooking, Blogger Style recipe sharing Meme.  Click on the picture above, or just click here to get in on the action.

Here are the guidelines:

1) Recipes can be as long or as short as you’d like. They can be quick and simple or they can be a bit more complex. You can post more than one recipe if you’d like. Don’t worry if you think there might be duplicates of the recipe you have in mind (more than one stuffing recipe, for example) because I’ll bet each recipe is unique.
2) I’d appreciate holiday recipes that are tried and true. They don’t have to be your own creations, I don’t care where you originally got the recipe from, I just ask that you post a recipe that’s worked for you in the past. Feel free to give credit where credit is due. If you post a recipe from your aunt Martha Stewart, by all means, mention that! I’ll be sharing some family recipes.
3) When you post your recipe on your blog, within your post be sure to link back my post so that others know where to come and view more recipes. Feel free to use the graphic above in your post or on your sidebar.
4) Once you’ve posted your recipe on your blog, don’t forget to stop back and link on my Mr. Linky so that everyone can stop by and take a look at your recipe. I’d really appreciate it if you’d put your recipe title in parenthesis in Mr. Linky. And please link directly to your recipe post, not just your blog, so that it’s easy for people to find your recipe no matter what day they’re looking for it! Fair warning, if this isn’t done, I’ll do it for you and then you’ll loose your original spot on Mr. Linky.
5) There’s no deadline on when you have to post your recipe. This post isn’t going anywhere, so take your time! I’ll have this post linked up on my sidebar until next year’s Holiday Cooking, Blogger Style recipe exchange!

So what are you waiting for?  Dust off your cookbooks, dig out that favorite family recipe and get typing!  Oh, and make sure you check out the links to other blogs and see their recipes!  Enjoy!
