The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee

When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full.  They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous “yes.”

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

“Now,” said the professor as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things–your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions–and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.

The sand is everything else–the small stuff. “If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

“Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your  spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first–the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.”

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.”

A spiritual desert

I cannot say how long I have been in the desert (spiritually speaking) but it’s been a very long time – of that I am quite sure. There are those who are in a valley (as referred to in Psalm 23) but I wandered past the valley, past the shadow of death and somehow ended up in a barren dry land.

I believe in God. His Son. The Comfortor. I have faith the He is in control. I believe He speaks and works through others when we don’t hear or won’t hear Him speaking to us. But something has just dried up inside of me. I didn’t fully realize this, or allow myself to admit to it until tonight.

My husband has been in ICU since Thursday. He was sick for a week before that. I have been running on auto pilot and while I remember to pray for others, take care of the house, the family, the job, I forgot to pray for my husband. Can you believe that? The one thing that should be a knee jerk response – to go to the Lord in prayer and ask for healing for my husband – to post a prayer request for him – to call on friends and ask for prayer – the thought NEVER entered my mind.

It was not until I was driving to the hospital tonight and speaking to a friend (on my bluetooth) did I ask for prayer for my husband. I humbled myself before God and asked for forgiveness for only coming to Him asking for His favor and healing and forsaking Him in all other areas of my life.

I know the power of prayer – I know the healing power of prayer, so why did I wait so long? I will never know the answer to that question while still on this earth, but I do know that God works all things for good and His timing is perfect. He turns things meant for evil and wrong to things for good when you let Him. I know this because He has always been there.

While at the hospital this evening I noticed that he developed a bad sore and was so upset that I gave the nurse an earful along with her supervisor and they called the ICU doctor on staff. I had to wait for a few hours for the doctor to come in as she was busy with several very ill patients in the ER, and I like to believe that God had a hand in the delay because it allowed time for emotions to be under control.

Would it surprise you to find out that the doctor is a Christian? Would it surprise you to find out that she believes in spiritual healing, leadings of the Spirit, loves praise and worship music, prayer, believes in annointing with oil and laying on of hands and is not afraid to share her faith? Well don’t be surprised – it’s all true. She even gave us the name of a church to visit and after looking it up, it sounds like just what we’ve been looking for. So God used this doctor to help lift my husband up spiritually. She even told me about an awesome app for my IPhone – K Love. If you don’t have it – get it! It’s free and it’s awesome. Praise and worship music 24/7.

I know it’s late and need to be sleeping, but I had to post this. I haven’t wanted to post anything for a long time, aside from prayer requests, and something inside me would not let me just hop into bed without posting this.

Are you in a dry place? Do you feel like you can’t pray? Have you lost the desire to speak with Him? Ask someone to pray for you. Put on praise and worship music. Talk to the Lord and tell Him how you are feeling, what you are going through, and ask Him for help. He will hear you. He will answer you. He is your answer.

And if you don’t think the enemy is real and behind our wanderings in and out of the desert, know this – I tried posting this 5 times with no success but was determined not to rest until it posted.  Something told me to highlight and copy my post before I clicked “post”.  When I clicked “post” it just kept spinning like it was trying to post, but nothing happened.  I could not figure out what the problem was, then I realized I was using Internet Explorer so I switched over to Google Chrome, started a new post, pasted what I had originally written and clicked post – voila – it posted!  Now, had I not listened to that inner voice, and not copied it, I would have lost it and given up.  Now I know the reason why I had to post this – someone is going to be blessed by reading this – even if it’s just me, that’s okay with me.  Praise the Lord!!!

Change Your Words

My Mom sent me this video clip in an email and it touched my heart to the core.  It reminded me how very important our words are, the power in them, and how we need to be careful what we say and how we say it, and that we can have what we speak.  Enjoy this very special video.  As said in the email I received:

This is a wonderful, thought-provoking, one minute clip.
Full of wisdom. . . . and very brief.
It’s not a joke, it’s not religious, it’s not political.
It’s just . . . special. I think you’ll agree.
Please enjoy this two minute clip; it is truly special.
It has a meaning for all of us.

I tried to embed the video without commercials but there were technical problems, so you can either click the link below and watch without the commercial, or click on the youtube video below.  Thanks to everyone who commented or alerted me to the problem.  Enjoy!

Giving Thanks???

thanksI am counting the days until Thanksgiving and Christmas and trying to figure out how I am going to pay my bills and have anything leftover for gift giving and holiday cooking let alone being thankful for what I have.

I am trying my best not to give in to the sorrow and sadness that keeps trying to creep into my spirit.  Every time a commercial comes on there are car ads, or department store ads telling me how I can get that special person a special gift at a special price and I get a knot in my stomach knowing I need a new car but can’t afford one, and would love to get the special people in my life that special gift but don’t have the money to do it.

I know that even though our family is going through a very rough time, there are others with less than we have.  I know that even though I am behind in some of my bills, there are those that have lost their homes, cars and more.  While I keep my thermostat set low to save on my gas bill, there are those with no heat or home.  I know that while I have to cut back on buying extra special treats for the holidays, there are those with nothing to eat today.  I know that it’s not the number of gifts you give or how much you spend, but the thought behind what you give.

thanks3

It took writing out my thoughts to remember I have so very much to be thankful for.  While it’s not great I have my health, while it needs repair I have a home, while it’s not gourmet I have food, while I could be a bit toastier I have warmth, while it’s not designer or in style I have clothing, while it needs a lot of repair I have a car, and while we’re not the Waltons I have family and friends who love and care for me and I wouldn’t change for anything.

I can’t turn back time to when I had a great paying job and money and great thanks2credit and I can’t predict the future, so I have to live in the day and be thankful that I am here to experience it.

I pray that His peace that surpasses all understanding is yours.  God bless.

God’s “Phone” Number

My mom sent this to me and I think it’s something that needs to be passed on. May God bless you and keep you in His care~Briggie

dove

I called tonight

To talk a little while

I need a friend who’ll listen

To my anxiety and trial.

You see, I can’t quite make it

Through a day just on my own…

I need your love to guide me,

So I’ll never feel alone.

I want to ask you please to keep,

My family safe and sound.

Come and fill their lives with confidence

For whatever fate they’re bound.

Give me faith, dear God, to face

Each hour throughout the day,

And not to worry over things

I can’t change in any way.

I thank you God, for being home

And listening to my call,

For giving me such good advice

When I stumble and fall!!!!

Your number, God, is the only one

That answers every time.

I never get a busy signal,

Never had to pay a dime.

So thank you, God, for listening

To my troubles and my sorrow.

Good night, God, I love You, too,

And I’ll call again tomorrow!

P.S.  Please bless all my friends and family too.

Thank You For Your Time

A very good friend sent this to me and I think it is well worth the few minutes of your time that it takes to read it.  I pray you will be blessed by its message.  ~ Briggie…

ONCE YOU READ THIS YOU  WILL  UNDERSTAND!

A young man learns what’s most important in life from the guy next door.

It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, girls, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams.  There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.  Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday."

Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.  "Jack, did you hear me?"  "Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It’s been so long since I thought of him. I’m sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said.  "Well, he didn’t forget you. Every time I saw him he’d ask how you were doing. He’d reminisce about the many days you spent over ‘his side of the fence’ as he put it," Mom told him.

"I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said.  "You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man’s influence in your life," she said "He’s the one who taught me carpentry," he said. "I wouldn’t be in this business if it weren’t for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important…Mom, I’ll be there for the funeral," Jack said.  As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser’s funeral was small and uneventful.

He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.  The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time.  Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time The house was exactly as he remembered.

Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture….Jack stopped suddenly… "What’s wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked.  "The box is gone," he said.  "What box?" Mom asked.  "There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he’d ever tell me was ‘the thing I value most,’" Jack said.  It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.

"Now I’ll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom."  It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox. "Signature required on a package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days," the note read.  Early the next day Jack retrieved the package.

The small box was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention. "Mr. Harold Belser" it read. Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack’s hands shook as he read the note inside.  "Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It’s the thing I valued most in my life." A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch.  Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover. Inside he found these words engraved:  "Jack, Thanks for your time! -Harold Belser."  "The thing he valued most was…my time"  Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked.  "I need some time to spend with my son," he said.  "Oh, by the way, Janet, thanks for your time!"

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away."

Think about this. You may not realize it, but it’s 100% true.

1. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.
2. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don’t like you.
3. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.
4. You mean the world to someone.
5. If not for you, someone may not be living.
6. You are special and unique.
7. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won’t get it, but if you trust God to do what’s best, and wait on His time, sooner or later, you will get it or something better.
8. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good can still come from it.
9. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world.
10. Someone that you don’t even know exists loves you.
11. Always remember the compliments you received.Forget about the rude remarks.
12. Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know and you’ll both be happy.
13. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.
Share this with all the people you care about, if you do so, you will certainly brighten someone’s day and might change their perspective on life…for the better.  To everyone I sent this to "Thanks for your time."

Hurricane Irene

I give all thanks and praise to God for His protection over our home this past weekend.  I truly believe He answered our prayers for protection and I am so thankful for His mercy.  My prayers go out to the families who suffered losses and damage.  May His peace be upon you and may He bless you and restore you in Jesus’ name, amen.

Holiday Mail For Heroes

It’s that time of year again, when we start making our lists.  Gift lists, grocery lists, to do lists and holiday card lists.  It got me thinking that we need to make sure we include the men and women of our military so I found this info on Snopes.com.  Remember, you need to make sure your cards / gifts are postmarked no later than Friday, December 10th for them to arrive on time.  When you send your card, you may want to include a special note of thanks, or scripture.  Thanks for your support!

Holiday Mail for Heroes

  • Christmas cards sent to soldiers through the Red Cross-sponsored "Holiday Mail for Heroes" program will reach their intended recipients.
  • Christmas cards addressed to "A Recovering American Soldier" or "Any Wounded Soldier" sent to Walter Reed Hospital will not reach their intended recipients.

Origins:   Recent years have seen several Internet-based grass-roots promotions of programs that enable the public to send letters, cards,

gifts, and other greetings to U.S. troops serving overseas or recovering in stateside hospitals, particularly around the holiday season. Unfortunately, many such promotions (such as the "Recovering American Soldier" effort) have not worked out as well as hoped due to insufficient organization, deadlines, security concerns, and other factors.
For the 2010 holiday season, the Red Cross and Pitney Bowes are again sponsoring a "Holiday Mail for Heroes" program to distribute holiday cards to service members, a program that encompasses not just troops who are recovering in military hospitals but also service members stationed throughout the U.S. and abroad, as well as veterans and their families.

The cards should be addressed to:

Holiday Mail for Heroes
PO Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD
20791-5456

As noted on the "Holiday Mail for Heroes" section of the American Red Cross’ web site, all cards must be postmarked no later than Friday, December 10, 2010. Cards postmarked after that will be returned to the sender. This deadline ensures enough time to sort and distribute cards before the holidays.
The Red Cross provides these additional guidelines:

Do

  • Include your heartfelt sentiments and sign all cards
  • Entitle cards with generic terms such as "Dear Service Member, Family or Veteran"
  • Limit cards to 15 per person or 50 for school class or business group
  • Bundle groups of cards in single, large envelopes.

Don’t

  • Send letters, care packages or monetary gifts
  • Include personal information such as home or email addresses
  • Use glitter — excessive amounts can aggravate health issues of wounded recipients
  • Include inserts of any kind as they must be removed in the screening process

Also please note that the "Holiday Mail for Heroes" program is for the delivery of holiday cards only. Those wishing to donate items such as phone cards or military comfort kits should go to the military section of the Red Cross online catalogue.
E-mailed entreaties from previous years have urged Americans to send cards addressed to "A Recovering American Soldier" or "Any Wounded Soldier" care of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, but Walter Reed officials have said that any material so addressed will not be delivered:

Walter Reed Army Medical Center officials want to remind those individuals who want to show their appreciation through mail to include packages and letters, addressed to "Any Wounded Soldier" that Walter Reed will not be accepting these packages in support of the decision by then Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Transportation Policy in 2001. This decision was made to ensure the safety and well being of patients and staff at medical centers throughout the Department of Defense.
In addition, the U.S. Postal Service is no longer accepting "Any Service Member" or "Any Wounded Service Member" letters or packages. Mail to "Any Service Member" that is deposited into a collection box will not be delivered.
Instead of sending an "Any Wounded Soldier" letter or package to Walter Reed, please consider making a donation to one of the more than 300 nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping our troops and their families listed on the "America Supports You" website, http://www.americasupportsyou.mil

Rules from God for 2010

One of my friends sent “Rules from God for 2010” to me in an email today.  It had cute icons, some that were animated and some were not, but what was written made me take a look at  how I start each day and how I handle things.  It is so simple yet so profound and only takes a minute to read – let it sink in, determine to adhere to each rule every day, I know I will!  Yesterday is gone, it’s in the past and there’s nothing we can do about it.  Tomorrow is in the future and we cannot predict it so there’s no use worrying about it.  Today however, is in the present, which is why they call it a gift, so make good use of it!  Take care and God bless you. ^i^ Briggie

Rules from God for 2010
1. Wake Up !!
Decide to have a good day. "Today is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" Psalms 118:24

2.Dress Up !! The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. "The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance; but the Lord looks at the heart."
I Samuel 16:7

3 . Shut Up!! Say nice things and learn to listen. God gave us two ears and one mouth, so He must have meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking. "He who guards his lips guards his soul." Proverbs 13:3

4. Stand Up!!…..
For what you believe in. Stand for something or you will fall for anything.. "Let us not be weary in doing good; for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good…" Galatians 6:9-10

5. Look Up !!…  To the Lord. "I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

6. Reach Up !!…
For something higher. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, And He will direct your path."
Proverbs 3:5-6

7. Lift Up !!…  Your Prayers. God answers prayers, maybe not the way we want, but always the way we need. "Do not worry about anything; Instead PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING." Philippians 4:6

Twas The month Before Christmas

Twas the month before Christmas*

*When all through our land,*

*Not a Christian was praying*

*Nor taking a stand.*

*See the PC Police had taken away,*

*The reason for Christmas – no one could say.*

*The children were told by their schools not to sing,*

*About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.*

*It might hurt people’s feelings, the teachers would say*

* December 25th is just a ‘ Holiday ‘.*

*Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit*

*Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!*

*CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod*

*Something was changing, something quite odd! *

*Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa*

*In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.*

*As Targets were hanging their trees upside down*

* At Lowe’s the word Christmas – was no where to be found.*

*At K-Mart and Staples and Penny’s and Sears*

*You won’t hear the word Christmas; it won’t touch your ears.*

*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty*

*Are words that were used to intimidate me.*

*Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen*

*On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!*

*At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter*

*To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.*

*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith*

* Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*

*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded*

*The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*

*So as you celebrate ‘Winter Break’ under your ‘Dream Tree’*

*Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.*

*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*

*Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS , not Happy Holiday!*

Please, all Christians join together and

wish everyone you meet during this season a MERRY CHRISTMAS

Christ is The Reason for the Christ-mas Season!

The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler

image

I received an email about an amazing woman named Irena Sendler (see below) from my friend Doris.  I wanted to know more about Irena, so I decided to do some web searching to look into the story further.  I came across a blog that has a wonderful post about Irena so click HERE to read about Irena and her amazing courage.  In a world where so many of us focus on our problems and woes, this woman gave no thought to self.  In my humble opinion, Irena truly did what Jesus commanded us to do, love others and look after His flock.  May God bless you

irena sender

About a year ago, there was a death of a 98 year-old lady named Irena. During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist.

She had an ‘ulterior motive’ ….  She KNEW what the Nazi’s plans were for the Jews, (being German.) Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried and she carried in the back of her truck a burlap sack, (for larger kids.)

She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.  The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.  During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.

She was caught,  and the Nazi s broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely.  Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar,  buried under a tree in her back yard.  After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it and reunited the family.  Most of course had been gassed.  Those kids she helped were placed into foster family homes or adopted.

Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize … She was not selected.  Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.
LET’S SEND THIS ONE AROUND THE WORLD

GOD BLESS HER – May she rest in Peace.

As you might remember, the head of a company survived

One woman was late because her

One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike

Because of an auto accident.

One of them

Missed his bus.

One spilled food on her clothes and had to take
Time to change.

One’s

Car wouldn’t start.

One couldn’t

T
he one that struck me was the man
Who put on a new pair of shoes that morning,
Took the various means to get to work
But before he got there, he developed
a  blister on his foot.

He stopped at a drugstore
to buy a Band-Aid.
That is why he is alive today..

A Prayer Worth Sharing

I received this in an email from my dear friend Marie.  While I dislike emails that come saying to pass along to X number of friends, I love sharing a good message or prayer.  I found this prayer to be so simple and sweet yet so powerful that I wanted to share it with you.  Take care and may God, the Creator and Master of the universe bless you and keep you in His care.

Love in Christ Yeshua,

There is no cost but a lot of  rewards.
Let’s always pray for one another.

Women have strengths that amaze men…

They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy.

They smile when they want to scream.

They sing when they want to cry.

They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.

They fight for what they believe in.

They stand up to injustice.

They don’t take “no” for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.

They go without so their family can have.

They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.

They love unconditionally.

They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.

They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding.

Their hearts break when a friend dies.

They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.

They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.

Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

They’ll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.

The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.

They bring joy, hope and love.

They have compassion and ideas.

They give moral support to their family and friends.

Women have vital things to say and everything to give.

HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN, IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.
